After graduating from RWCMD in Cardiff Matt spent 4 years working as a lighting technician as a freelancer at Stage Electrics in Bristol. He returned to RWCMD in 2003 as Chief Technician and spent the next 20 years in an evolving role supporting the diverse technical needs of the Academic and Production work at the college.

Most recently Matt led the technical implementation of the colleges "Digital Strategy". This was an ongoing project that was started to enable the college to continue operations during the pandemic. It evolved into an ongoing effort to introduce new technologies and systems to support the ongoing academic, production and commercial works of the college. These projects included: Streaming suite - A new facility enabling the capture of live performances from the Dora Stoutzker Hall, Richard Burton Theatre or Carne Foyer. The suite could pull in NDI and SDI video sources and Dante audio. This could then be separately routed so that unto 3 separate livestreams or recordings could be managed from the suite at any one time; Digital Media Suite - A new facility primarily to support the voiceover, acting for radio students. Fully digital to enable maximum future flexibility and integration into the planned sitewide dedicated production network; Lecture Capture / Blended Learning - All academic and rehearsal spaces equipped with PTZ cameras, audio and video capture all controlled with a custom control system that Matt designed. This provided a common user interface for the end users regardless of the equipment in the room.
