Hull New Theatre
As part of the city's forthcoming celebrations as UK City of Culture in 2017, Hull City Council has decided to significantly upgrade the facilities at their premier performance space, Hull New Theatre. The theatre opened in 1939 in what was a large lecture hall. Following severe damage sustained during the second world war, the theatre went on to enjoy renovations at numerous points throughout the following decades with its most recent being improvements to access in 1995.
Now the theatre will undergo a series of major imporvements, including increasing the overall stage size and the audience capacity by 200 seats and improvements to the lighting, audio and environmental systems of the building. In addition, a general upgrade to the internal finishes and facilities will create an environment fit for a new generation of theatre goers.
