Chicago Shakespeare Theater is one of the premier interpreters of Shakespeare and related works in the USA, bringing home-grown and international theatre productions to the centre of Chicago’s most-visited tourist attraction, Navy Pier. The theatre currently operates a fixed-form thrust stage, and an end-stage 200-seat studio theatre. As a part of the redevelopment of Navy Pier, the theatre will add a flexible 150 – 850 seat venue depending on the chosen configuration. This will enable the company to stage its own large musicals, spectacles, and flexible format work, and to also economically present touring work.
The intimacy of the existing theatre is a hallmark of the company and it remains imperative that the sense of connection and excitement is not lost in the new larger theatre - with nearly twice as many seats. Key to the success of the room will be the clarity of the unamplified voice. Charcoalblue are leading the acoustic design and noise control design, along with the auditorium and technical theatre designs
