The Expo 2017 site in Astana, Kazakhstan, is a 174 hectare site designed by AS+GG, Chicago based architects. Amongst the retail, residential, leisure and educational development, is approximately 12,000 square metres of cultural facilities.
Charcoalblue undertook initial design work on the two indoor performance venues and the two outdoor spaces. Following this work we developed the design of the 1,000 seat Energy Hall to the detailed design stage, whilst the acoustic design of the Congress Centre was taken to the preparation of Contract Documents.
The Energy Hall is a multi-tiered space that is suited for a wide range of performances from string quartets to musical theatre. The room is designed so that a small performance can be staged on the large forestage, while a larger event is being set up on the main stage behind a large acoustic door on the proscenium line.
