Gavin Green

 

Gavin co-founded Charcoalblue in 2004 and has over seventeen years’ experience designing theatre spaces all around the world. Having originally trained as an architect, Gavin specialises in auditorium design, the planning of theatre buildings and early stage feasibility and briefing studies.

 

As Head of Theatre Design, Gavin led the designs for the RSC’s new flagship theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon, as well as the full-size prototype Courtyard. Gavin’s latest project has been the refurbishment of the National’s Dorfman Theatre (previously Cottesloe) seeing significant improvments to the capacity and audience comfort. In the States, Gavin led the concept designs for Steppenwolf Theatre’s new venues, Chicago Shakespeare Rep, as well as projects in Boston. In New York Gavin led the design for Saint Ann’s Warehouse’s move to a new temporary home last year and is working on their move to a permanent building opening in 2016.

 

Gavin is a member of the Society of Theatre Consultants and ABTT, and has taught at both the University of Kent’s School of  Architecture and Drama Department, and the Dublin Institute of Technology’s School of Architecture. Gavin spent six years with Theatre Projects Consultants, including two years living in Connecticut as a Senior Design Consultant working on the Lincoln Center Redevelopment Study, NYC and Kodak Theatre in LA.
